In Cambridge the need for affordable housing is at crisis level. According to the City of Cambridge’s latest statistics (2024), 532 people are experiencing homelessness in the community, and the waitlist for affordable housing in Cambridge is much higher. Indwell has responded to this need by purchasing the Grand River Hotel property (1102 King Street East) in historic downtown Preston with plans to convert that site into supportive housing and now named Heritage Flats.

The new community at Heritage Flats will include 45 supportive affordable permanent apartments for the Preston area of Cambridge. A number of the units will be barrier free. There will also be community space and kitchen for tenant programming.
