Covid-19

CONTINUING OUR MISSION TO CARE FOR VULNERABLE PEOPLE

Social distancing and isolation are particularly difficult for many Indwell tenants—most of whom live alone, and whose interactions with their communities of support have been curtailed by the pandemic. People already vulnerable to the effects of loneliness are “feeling it” more acutely, often exacerbating existing mental health conditions and addictions.

Thankfully,  we have an incredible community of support that constantly reminds us and our tenants that we’re not alone. Even while you’ve coped with the impact of the pandemic in your own life, many of you have reached out with words of encouragement, financial support, prayers, and other practical and profound expressions of love.

With generous funding from the Ministry of Health, community foundations (Oxford, London, Hamilton), and the City of Hamilton, we’ve been able to:

  • Supplement our nursing, housing support, and addictions support staff.
  • Purchase technology so tenants can connect with their professional and personal supports.
  • Enhance our cleaning and sanitizing protocols.

Your gifts to our COVID-19 Tenant Support Fund continue to equip Indwell’s program staff as they go the extra mile:

  • Among many other things, our support staff have been vigilant in doing frequent wellness checks to support tenants who are lonely and unsettled.
  • Our kitchen staff deliver meals to tenants’ doors so they can continue to have healthy, nutritious meals in the safety of their home.
  • Our facilities team continues to work hard with program staff in keeping everyone safe.

Now more than ever, it is important that our tenants feel connected with others, even if they cannot be physically connected. Send a note of encouragement to be shared with our tenants who are feeling isolated at this time.
