How does Indwell decide to move into a new community?

Many communities have deep needs around supportive housing and homelessness. As our tenants and programs find success, many new communities are inviting Indwell to help them create local solutions. We’ve seen that new programs are possible when there’s alignment across four areas: community, health care, municipal staff, and political leadership.

Community support starts at the grassroots — with individuals and families who understand local housing needs, and with leaders in businesses, faith communities, and social service agencies working alongside health care partners. They help us understand local needs and build community support and identify funding opportunities needed for new solutions.

Municipal staff support is critical throughout the planning process, aligning with local social services and housing plans, and putting funding applications before decision-makers. Political support from civic leaders is essential. Local and Regional or County Councils, along with area MPPs and MPs, have a role in supporting Indwell projects when decisions — such as planning permissions or funding — come before them.

Every time we each bring our best to the table, we can create solutions that lead to growth into new communities.

Send a note of encouragement

Now more than ever, it is important that our tenants feel connected with others, even if they cannot be physically connected. Send a note of encouragement to be shared with our tenants who are feeling isolated at this time.
