Indwell is pleased to be part of the solution to homelessness in the Region of Peel, and to contribute to meeting the Region’s mission which states: “Together with Peel Housing Corporation, we provide well-maintained emergency and affordable housing options and supports to residents who are homeless, unstably housed, and unable to afford housing in the private market.” (source here, p4)
Indwell purchased 1639 Lakeshore Rd W, a vacant lot in Clarkson Village, in the fall of 2023 to build a supportive housing community. The site is appropriately zoned, has access to public transit, and is walking distance to grocery stores and other services.
Indwell will create and operate up to 50 supportive and deeply affordable permanent housing units primarily consisting of one-bedroom units. Other features of the proposed building include main floor commercial space, a shared common space, laundry, an outdoor raised patio overlooking nearby Turtle Creek and office space for Indwell staff. The four-storey building will be constructed to the highly energy efficient Passive House standard.
Tenants will live independently and benefit from supports through an interdisciplinary staff team. Supports increase the likelihood that tenants are successful in maintaining stable housing and pursuing their health and wellness goals in a supportive community.
Tenants will be selected in partnership with the Region of Peel from eligible candidates on the Region’s municipally run waitlist for affordable housing. An application for interest in any of our Mississauga housing must be submitted via SHIP where you can select your preferred location. SHIP contacts all applicants to confirm receipt of application and gather relevant information. Prospective tenants will be interviewed by Indwell program staff.
