Celebrating 1,000 HOMES  —  and looking towards the future with hope

As 2022 comes to a close, we’re celebrating a remarkable milestone: the opening of Indwell’s 1,000th home! You’re partnering with us in this vision of hope and homes for all. Because of you, 1,000 safe, supportive, and affordable homes are now available to people in communities across southern and southwestern Ontario.

I’d like to introduce you to one of those 1,000+ people. Charmaine moved into Indwell’s Lakeshore Lofts in Mississauga earlier this year, and says it’s been a welcome change from her previous accommodations. She appreciates that she can afford her new apartment, and still have enough left over to cover the costs of food, clothing, personal care, and other essentials.

Being a part of a supportive community has been a significant change for Charmaine, providing her with hope and stability. “The location is convenient, and the staff are amazing,” she exclaims. “The daily activities planned by the staff to keep the community of tenants engaged is something that I enjoy and find helpful.”

The design and location of her living space have also had a positive effect on her overall wellness.

“In my previous basement apartment, I felt isolated and alone all the time,” says Charmaine:

Moving to my new unit which is now above ground made a huge difference in my mood and improved my mental health. Coming from a space of isolation, it was a welcomed change to be able to see natural light—as my unit has two sets of windows—and I am someone who enjoys a beautiful view, which I now have!

Charmaine says her future goals are to become pain-free and regain her independence.

Thank you for your generous giving as we welcome tenants like Charmaine into their homes. You’re providing much more than a roof over someone’s head; you’re providing a foundation of health, wellness, and belonging—a home in a community made up of neighbours, staff, volunteers, and other supports. Within this supportive community you’ve helped create, Indwell’s tenants are able to not just live, but thrive.

Please give at the end of this year to support Charmaine, and other current or future tenants like her, in their new homes.

Before you go...

1,000 HOMES is great cause for celebration, but our work is far from over. Looking ahead to the new year, we’re thrilled to anticipate the opening of nearly 130 new homes—and hundreds more yet as we look even farther into the future! However, with the increasing cost of construction, decreasing government funding, and interest rates that continue to climb, our ability to turn these shovel-ready projects into new supportive housing is in jeopardy. We need your help now, more than ever. The housing crisis is getting worse every day, and the number of deaths among people who are unhoused—from overdoses, injuries, lack of basic medical care, exposure to the elements, and more—continues to rise.

Yet, there is hope. People like you are saving and transforming lives, giving more and more people hope for a brighter future. Through your giving, you ensure that each person who lives at Indwell has the resources and tools they need to flourish, and that the supply of homes continues to grow.

Send a note of encouragement

Now more than ever, it is important that our tenants feel connected with others, even if they cannot be physically connected. Send a note of encouragement to be shared with our tenants who are feeling isolated at this time.
