Hamilton, Ontario – Members of the media are invited to a photo opportunity as The Cowan Foundation presents Indwell with a $400,000 cheque. This contribution will be an important source of funding for Indwell’s housing development on East Ave North in Hamilton (site of the former Royal Oak Dairy). This is the largest donation The Cowan Foundation has made to a charity in Hamilton.
“We’re incredibly grateful for The Cowan Foundation and their focus on health and well-being. This gift towards affordable, supportive housing will enable many in our community to thrive as they experience health, wellness, and belonging,” says Jeff Neven, Executive Director at Indwell.
Since its inception in 1995, The Cowan Foundation has supported many worthwhile Canadian charitable organizations, with a special focus on health and well-being as well as children and youth. By narrowing their focus on these key areas, their hope is that these investments will have a greater impact and make a real difference in people’s lives.
“On behalf of the Directors of The Cowan Foundation, we are pleased to support Indwell Community Homes and their Royal Oak Dairy project in Hamilton,” says Mary D’Alton, Executive Director, The Cowan Foundation. “The creation of additional permanent affordable housing removes significant economic barriers to help people step out of poverty and closely demonstrates our Foundation’s commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of Canadians.”
We see incredible hope and stability for the future tenants of the Royal Oak Dairy building project,” says Heather McLachlin, President, Cowan Insurance Group. “We are proud to give back to communities where we live and work and recognize that affordable housing is one of the biggest challenges faced by so many in this region.”
Indwell’s project at the former Royal Oak Dairy is expected to open in early 2022 and will feature two buildings with a total of 95 one-bedroom apartments. Planning approvals are currently underway, and the project has been awarded $1.5m from the Ontario Priorities Housing Initiative (OPHI) as well as financing and funding from the City of Hamilton and the Hamilton Community Foundation.
Mary D’Alton, Executive Director of The Cowan Foundation, will present the cheque along with Heather McLachlin, President of Cowan Insurance Group and Jerry McDougall, Regional Manager at Cowan Insurance Group.
