It may have helped with next semester ’s tuition, but for those we hired, their summer positions were much more than a job. With grants through the Canada Summer Jobs program, Indwell employed eight young people for eight-week stints across several of its programs.

Most were Community Coordinators, running daily activities with Indwell tenants. While having a positive impact on our programs, many of them also discovered new directions for themselves.

Program: Hamilton’s Parkdale Landing and Strathearne Suites

"Indwell is an uplifting community that I was so fortunate to be a part of. The staff and tenants welcomed me immediately, and together we worked to create a meaningful community. I am thankful for the people, the kindness, and the spirit I witnessed."
Gwen
"Gwyn was a great addition to the Indwell team and jumped right in! Her energetic spirit was contagious. She built strong relationships with many of the tenants. We are happy to hear that she will be staying on as a volunteer."

"These activities helped to encourage a sense of community and belonging for the tenants which contribute to their overall well-being. I came to this job with the mindset that I wanted to help bring joy and hope to the tenants, but it has been the tenants who have changed me and brought joy and hope into my life."

Lauren Galenkamp and Liam McGibbon

Program: Hamilton ’s Wentworth Program

"I am so glad to have had the opportunity to work this position because of how much my world opened up. This job taught me about loving people well and how to do that on both a large and small scale. One of my favourite things about Indwell is the high standards of how people are treated."
Lauren
"I've been completely changed by the relationships I’ve made this summer, not only with residents and tenants but also with the staff. My experience working for Indwell has opened my eyes to a new path that God has now set before me that’s completely different from the path I had originally thought I was on."
Liam

Mackenzie Green

Program: Hamilton’s Perkins Centre and Rudy Hulst Commons

"Mackenzie was a steady presence at Indwell for her third summer now! She even volunteered during her busy school year. This summer, she organized a partnership with A Rocha’s Cedar Haven Farm, which all of the Hamilton programs were able to enjoy through many visits."
