A Social Purpose Food Skills Employability Program

Gather Culinary Academy is Hamilton’s first free culinary job training program for people living in poverty and seeking to enter or re-enter the workforce in the culinary arts.

This intensive program provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become successfully employed in the culinary industry.
This program was founded by Indwell, a local charity that creates affordable housing communities to alleviate poverty and support skill-building that leads to independence.

Starting in 2021, Indwell is partnering with Mohawk College’s City School and Workforce Partnerships; an alignment that deepens the shared commitment to serve vulnerable populations in support of healthy community outcomes.

In response to the changes to the employment landscape, the 2021 program has been adapted to include value added training in the area of environmental services.

Additional partnerships with CompassOne Healthcare, Thrive Group, City of Hamilton, Hamilton Health Sciences, and local independent restaurants has ensured a robust, and successful program.

“... our students are given the tools to have great impact on the community and culinary world.”
Two of my great passions are food and people, I am so excited to share these passions at Gather Culinary Academy. I truly believe our students are being given the tools to have great impact on the community and culinary world.
